Forskningsdagene 2020

Between the 16 and 27 of September 2020 the national research days was held. This year’s topic was the brain. In this context, Lars Folkow, Daniel Appenroth and Vebjørn J. Melum travelled to multiple schools and talked about their research. More specifically, how the brain is affected by the lack of oxygen during diving in seals, how light dictates the seasonal changes in physiology in ptarmigan and how hibernation is a unique strategy applied by a vast array of different organisms to survive the winter. The audience ranged from first grade to 10 grade and it gave the speakers an excellent opportunity to communicate their research and get a feel for how the lay audience interpret and think of what they are doing. All in all an exciting task that was received well.

  1. Why is it called Christmas?
A significant step in rebranding the ancient holiday was to give it a new-fangled, holy name. The word Christmas originates from Cristes maesse, Old English for “Christ’s Mass,” which orientations the Catholic ritual of property as a unique mass rite to rejoice Jesus.
