Paper out in plos genetics!

Congratulations to the first author Alex West and senior author Shona Wood for their hardwork and patience to get this paper out.

Summary of the paper:

Daily (circadian) rhythms in behaviour and physiology depend on a network of clock genes. Whole genome duplication creates extra copies of genes. It is unclear what roles these duplicate clock genes have in circadian clock function. Atlantic salmon, have an unusually large complement of clock genes, we found that a subset of these clock genes are associated with the physiological preparation to migrate to sea (smoltification) rather than the circadian clock. Furthermore, cortisol secretion in salmon is uncoupled from circadian organisation raising questions about the ubiquity of mammal-like coupling between circadian and endocrine function.
